CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) announced today that it has awarded the first ecoperating certification to Lucena, an apartment building in San Pedro, Nuevo León, México.

The ecoperating Building Certification accredits buildings, during their design, construction and/or operation phase, with notable sustainable features and performance above the market standard.

CEMEX recognizes projects that save energy, water and reduce the environmental impact associated to construction and buildings. Lucena is the first project in the world that receives this certification, in addition to acquiring the level ecoperating Plus, due to an improvement in energy efficiency in the building of at least 20%, when referenced against the strict ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standard of the United States.

Lucena has different features that allow it to be more efficient in terms of water and energy consumption. These are some of them:

• Natural ventilation that complements the automatic air conditioning system that relies on water.
• Optimal solar orientation coupled with the thermal insulation in ventilated facades, terraces and glass enclosures.
• Broad natural lighting, and artificial lighting made up of LEDs with automated and energy saving systems.
• Use of dual-flush devices and automated irrigation system, for water savings.
• Reflective materials that do not absorb heat in outdoor areas.
